On Friday, we celebrated the 26th anniversary of Covenant Place, our affordable housing community in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area! Thanks to grant funding for local organizations by Carol Woods Retirement Community, Covenant Place was able to build new garden boxes for residents and to have the landscaping refreshed. Our garden party was a terrific event to celebrate new opportunities for resident engagement and to come together in gratitude for friendships, community, and safe, affordable homes! #EveryAge #Chapelhillnc #carrboronc #seniorliving #AffordableHousing #anniversarycelebration #GoodNeighbor ... Lake Prince Woods residents will have a visual experience with two sculptures placed in the wellness center. The sculptures resulted from a study that looked at the impact of outdoor balloon releases. 11,441 balloons and balloon related litter items were recorded during a five-year study by Christina Trapani and Kathy O’Hara.

Through a partnership between Keep Suffolk Beautiful, Suffolk Art League and Suffolk Public Schools, the sculptures were welded by Suffolk school students at the College and Career Academy at Pruden. The art students and volunteers filled the welded forms with ballons that were collected during the debris surveys. Washed up clam netting forms the skin to hold them.

“People just don’t think about released balloons being liter. It’s evident when you see mass balloon releases at weddings, funerals, sports games and other events. But all balloons return to earth and can be damaging tour wildlife, especially sea turtles and shorebirds.” Christina Trapani, Marine Debris Researcher

Happy Labor Day! As we mark the unofficial end of summer, we also honor the work and contributions laborers have made to the development and achievements of the United States. Thanks to them, we have safer, healthier, and better balanced working conditions. Today, we applaud the benefits and circumstances of our own jobs that these early workers fought for and made possible. While you enjoy a cookout, vacation, or couch time, celebrate the good work that you do as well! #EveryAge #Laborday #AmericanWorkers #worklifebalance #ThankfulForWork ... See MoreSee Less
